TrueStrobe Tuner

Strobe tuner software for luthiers, guitar techs and studio engineers.

A precision strobe tuner. Built for guitarists, luthiers, and serious setup work.

I do guitar setups. The intonation step needs a strobe tuner. The good ones cost £400, the cheap ones run on a phone. I wanted something proper that lived on a laptop. So I built it.

Standard tuners get you to within a cent or two. Fine for stage and rehearsal. For setup work, sweetened tunings, or chasing a beat that won’t go away, you want tighter than that. Strobe tuners read drift down to 0.1 cents. About ten times more precise.

Peterson’s hardware strobes are the gold standard. Priced accordingly. The software alternatives are either ancient, mobile-only, or both. TrueStrobe Tuner is the option that wasn’t there.

0.1 Cent Strobe Precision

Multi-band rotating strobe disc. Locks still within one cent of the target note. Reads drift down to 0.1 cents, so you can set intonation properly the first time instead of nudging the saddle and hoping.

Every Temperament Worth Having

Equal, just, Pythagorean, and 1/4-comma meantone. Plus a Guitar Sweetener mode with per-string inharmonicity compensation. The bit that finally makes the B string behave on an acoustic and stops fanned-fret intonation being a guessing game.

Built for the Workshop

ASIO low-latency capture on Windows, CoreAudio on macOS. Tested with Focusrite Scarletts, Steinberg URs, and similar interfaces. Dockable controls panel, remembers your last session, dark / light / colourblind themes. Stays out of the way.

Every Instrument You’ll Touch

Guitar (standard, drop D, open G, open D, DADGAD), bass (4 and 5 string), violin, viola, cello, mandolin, ukulele, and full chromatic. One tuner for the whole bench.

Reference, Transpose, Capo

Reference pitch from 400 to 480 Hz (440 default). Transpose plus or minus 12 semitones. Capo simulation 0 to 12 frets. The settings that matter for baroque, A=432, or anything outside concert pitch.

Reads Stable on Bad Inputs

YIN-style pitch detection with confidence gating and median filtering. Three response presets so you can pick stable for setup work or responsive for a final tuning check. Doesn’t dance about on a low B.

Drop me a note via the contact page and I’ll ping you when it’s ready to download. No spam, no marketing nonsense, just a “here it is” when it’s here.

In the meantime, your guitar’s intonation isn’t going to set itself. Professional setups and re-stringing available now.
